Cowboys and Indians

The parents of one of Anna's classmates invited Nora and me to a themed costume party. The Cowboys and Indians party was last night (Saturday) and was unbelievable. The family lives in an area of Kansas called Leawood, and its definitely one of the more upscale neighborhoods in the area. Their house must have been twice the size of ours -and we're not in a small house.

The party featured multiple open bars, upscale catering including BBQ ribs, chicken, dips, chips and desserts, mmmmmmm. There was a DJ and dance floor, with full lights, and a mechanical bull. I lasted about 10 seconds on the bull and ripped the crotch out of my costume -turns out fake leather has no traction and I slid right off the back of the bull.

Nora dressed as a cowgirl for the event and looked very cute. I do love her in hats. I decided to go the Indian route and made, rather than bought, a costume. I did a little hunting around on the web for genuine outfit ideas, bought some fake leather, and started cutting out pieces to assemble into a costume. With Nora's help on the sewing machine, we got the costume completed in one evening.

Here's the two of us in full costume:

The Quest - Pizza Hut

For some unintelligible reason, I've been craving a good-old Pizza Hut pizza served hot in a Pizza Hut restaurant. Pierce picked up on my irrational desire, and on Wednesday night began lobbying for a trip to Pizza Hut.

Here's the catch, I have no idea where a Pizza Hut is. The ones that use to be near us all closed down several years ago. There are several take-out/delivery locations in the area; but they don't meet the current criteria.

So, we jumped in the car and Nora directed us to the last known Pizza Hut location. Which turned out to be closed, with the signs torn down. We then flipped on our Garmen GPS (which the kids have named Lola) and had her direct us to the nearest Pizza Hut (which was 5 miles away).

Of course, it turned out to be a take-out location. Ultimately we punted, and went to Old Chicago.

All this brings about the thought, what happened to Pizza Hut? They used to be the "go-to" pizza destination. I think they were one of the first places to start delivering pizza (about the same time as Dominos). Obviously, people are still going out for Pizza, so at what point did Pizza Hut fail to become the place people wanted to go? and why?

Leave a comment, I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Yup, another proton pack on eBay

I'm still trying to build and sell Ghostbuster Proton Packs on eBay as fast as I can. I got another one listed on Friday. Here's a video of the pack in action:

You can view the listing at:

I've got three more guns made and awaiting electronics, and two packs there are almost done. Hopefully I'll get them on the market before its too late to ship them for Halloween.

Anna gets a pet fish

Anna's been lobbying to get a hamster for at least a year. However, Nora and I really have no interest in having one in the house. Last week, Anna came into our room and told us she'd had a dream about having a pet hamster and a pet Beta (fish).

Being a smart aleck, of course I asked her if the hamster lived in the fishbowl too...

Both our kids tend to leave their toys scattered everywhere. One of the more bothersome areas (for me) is that they stack toys all over the furniture in their rooms. I haven't seen the surface of either kids dresser in over a year.

I told Anna that if she wanted a pet fish, I would get her one if she would clear her dresser of all toys, and keep it clear. The dresser would be where we'd put the fish bowl. Anna attempted to counter offer, by suggesting that the fish bowl could be on her night stand or bookshelf. But I insisted that it was the dresser or nothing.

The next morning, after Nora had taken Pierce to school and Anna was hanging out while I worked from home; she can into my office and said she had something to show me. She led me to her bedroom and showed me an immaculate dresser. And, she had actually put all the toys away, not tried to stuff them in a corner or a drawer. I told her we could shop for her fish that evening.

Flash forward a few hours and we head off to PetsMart. Anna carefully considers all the Betas the store has to offer and settles on a blue and red male. With much care, she carried the fish up to the cash register, introduced herself, and allowed me to pay for the fish.

On the drive home we discussed what the newest addition to the house's name would be. Without batting an eye, she announced that the fish's name was to be...
