News

I've been taking a professional certification course a couple of times a week at 3.5 hours each session (excluding homework and class prep time), so my discretionary time has been pretty limited lately. Sorry for the lack of updates.

What's the news...

Pierce and Anna went horseback riding as one of Pierce's scouting activities. On Sunday they groomed the horses, helped saddle them, rode for about 20 minutes and gave the horses treats after they took them back to their stalls. The horses weighed in excess of 1000 lbs and positvely dwarfed the two of them. Anna, unsuprisingly, loved every minute of it and is asking when she can do it again. Pierce enjoyed himself, but says one time was enough for him.

It only took 5 years... the background information. When Pierce was an infant I used to love to doze with him asleep on my chest. Unfortuately, by the time he was about 3 months old he wouldn't do it any more. He was too fidgetly and prefered to be facing out so he could see. Anna was even worse, even as a newborn she wouldn't fall asleep on my chest. Fast forward to present day, last weekend Anna came into our room on Saturday morning and climbed into bed with Nora and me. After a few minutes she layed across my chest, arms draped down my sides, sighed "I love you Dad," and fell asleep. I'm so happy.

Hannucha started on Tuesday evening. Nora shops for appropriate toys throughout the year, so we usually have a "stash" to draw against for gifting occasions, but I decided I would buy the first night's presents. I picked up a pair of walkie-talkies, put batteries in each of them, and wrapped them separately -one for each kid. When Pierce opened his he was very excited and immediately started to re-enact the Bugs Bunny cartoon where Bugs is on the moon and calling down to Earth. Before Anna even unwrapped hers she declared, "I don't want a walkie-talkie. I want a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle like I told Santa". She was not very good about hiding her disappointment -needless to say, that particular gift idea blewup in my face.
