House Painting

Well, probably 12 months overdue, our house has been painted. As major renovations go I guess it was mostly painless. We had a little hiccup where they painted over the glass in all our windows then went home for the day -and came back four days later. Now we know what it feels like to live in a cave. We ended up getting a nice discount on some other work we wanted done to make up for our inconvenience, so it all worked out.

Pierce is having some bathroom problems. He had three accidents last week. It looks like when he's having fun he's scared to go to the bathroom for fear that we won't let him return to what he's doing. We had wet pants at the park and our couch. Grrrr. Its really not his fault -he's so articulate its sometimes easy to forget that he's still a little kid.

Anna's swim lessons have come to an end. She made a new best friend in the class, Emma. Emma wears Princess swimsuits similar to Anna's. Its all she can talk about now. The classes were just ok -the prior year's instructor did not return and the replacement isn't so good. Pierce's lessons were supposed to be this week and it looks like they're to be canceled for lack of sign up. Nora really reamed the instructor when she called with the news -they're talking about giving Pierce semi-private lessons for the same price. Ultimately I think we'll be doing subsequent swim lessons at one of the community pools rather than our neighborhood pool.

We took the kids to Science City on the 4th of July. We watched a 3d movie about sharks on their IMAX screen. It was ok but not great. Pierce and Anna both got bored. That being said, we really enjoyed the rest of the exhibits. Our family membership has really paid off. We had Independence Day dinner at Nora's parents -wonderful grilled burgers, then headed off to the Great Mall of the Great Plains for fireworks. In prior years the Mall has been open to the public for lots of free events -moonbounces, music, food. We entered the mall only to find it empty -and security politely escorted us out. Turns out the doors we came through should not have been unlocked. The fireworks weren't bad -I didn't think they were as good as they have been, but Nora and kids thought they were fine.
